MILLIE DEMENT
Millie DeMent is primarily a self-taught artist painting in both oil and watercolor. She began painting as a hobby along with her husband, Earl, when they retired in 1986 to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia and, ten years later, to Southern Maryland.
Soon recognized as an emerging artist, her works have been displayed in both Virginia and Maryland galleries with numerous awards along the way. Her works can also be found in private and corporate collections in both Virginia and Maryland.
In addition, Millie and her husband Earl had the pleasure of having several of their paintings selected for scenes in the Disney movie, "What about Bob?".
Among Millie's most recent successes are a 1st Place Award in Watercolor at the SMAA April 2005 Annual Art Show and a 2nd Place Award in Watercolor at the SMAA December 2006 Annual Art Show. She was further honored when her painting, "Oh Vidalias" became an addition to the prestigious Sarah Gillespie collection of 2-dimensional art created in Mississippi.
Millie and her husband, originally from Maryland, have embraced Hattiesburg as their home. |
